The All Progressives Congress (APC) women’s wing has begun preparations for a nationwide grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the party’s female leaders directed to build structures across wards, local governments and communities.

The mobilisation drive was launched at the APC Women’s Stakeholders’ Mobilisation and Empowerment Pre-Inaugural Summit 2026 in Abuja, attended by women leaders from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, National Assembly members, ministers and representatives of women’s groups.

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu urged the women to return to their respective states and convert their support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration into votes for the APC.

She said the mobilisation should cover not only the presidential election but also APC candidates contesting legislative and state-level positions.

“What you see on the ballot box is APC,” she said, urging the women to work for the party “from presidency ... to National Assembly, and also to the state assembly”.

Tinubu said the campaign would be built around the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda 2.0: From Reform to Prosperity”, which she said was beginning to produce results.

She cited economic stabilisation, falling inflation, increased foreign reserves, investment, agricultural support and student loans among the administration’s initiatives.

The First Lady also expressed support for women seeking elective positions, saying women support groups within the APC were being brought together to strengthen the party’s campaign structure.

She said women leaders would also have a role in coordinating the national campaign structure at state level.

Tinubu urged the women to maintain unity and ensure their political influence translated into electoral support for the APC.

“Let us share the hope that when Nigerian women have spoken, we speak with one voice, and we vote,” she said.

The Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Abdul-Aziz Yari, described women as a critical voting bloc and urged them to remain united as the party prepares for the elections.

“What we need is one voice, one movement, one choice, and one man. That’s what we need for 2027,” Yari said.

The APC National Women Leader said the immediate task was to establish stronger networks among women across wards, local government areas and communities while linking residents with available government empowerment programmes.

She said the party’s women leaders should identify people requiring support, connect them to relevant opportunities and ensure beneficiaries contributed to development in their communities.

“Our action plan is clear. First, we must build stronger women-to-women networks across our wards, local governments and communities,” she said.

She also called for a shift from political mobilisation to measurable grassroots action, backed by defined responsibilities, regular engagement and accountability.

The summit further highlighted government empowerment initiatives for women, elderly citizens, persons with disabilities and young people, with APC women urged to take ownership of the programmes and deepen engagement with communities.

The women leaders declared their readiness to commence grassroots mobilisation across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
