The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship seats in Saturday’s local government elections in Yobe State, according to results declared by the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission.
The results were announced by the commission’s chairman, Dr Ibrahim Mohammad Yabani, at the YOSIEC headquarters in Damaturu on Sunday.
The election was conducted across all 17 local government areas and 178 electoral wards in the state on September 26, 2026.
Ten political parties participated in the election, fielding candidates for the chairmanship positions in the 17 LGAs and councillorship seats across the 178 wards.
Yabani said the election was conducted without major disruption, describing the exercise as hitch-free.
He said the participation of 10 political parties reflected the level of competition witnessed in several local government areas.
Following the close of polls on Saturday, votes were counted and collated, with councillorship results declared at the ward levels and chairmanship results announced at the respective local government collation centres.
The commission subsequently presented the official summary of votes scored by the chairmanship candidates across the 17 local government councils.
The outcome gives the APC control of all the chairmanship positions in Yobe’s 17 LGAs.
