The Action Democratic Party, ADP, has abandoned zoning and power rotation. The party declared that it will not zone its presidential ticket in the buildup to the 2027 general elections.

The National Chairman of ADP, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, at the first National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the party in 2026, stated that aspirants from any part of the country are free to contest on its platform. Stakeholders, at the NEC meeting, deliberated on guidelines for primaries, ratification of congresses, and possible amendments to the party’s constitution.

The Chairman argued that leadership selection should be based on the ability to deliver, rather than identity factors.

According to him, critics of INEC are “chasing shadows,” insisting that the real issue lies in structural and constitutional gaps within Nigeria’s political system.

He called for constitutional amendments to address the flaws in the country’s institutional framework, rather than blaming the electoral umpire.
