The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened a seven-day window for Nigerians to scrutinise the voters’ register and raise objections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise will run from October 9 to 15, allowing registered voters to verify their personal details and report errors or discrepancies before the final register is produced.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced the dates on Tuesday at a national stakeholders’ meeting held to mark 100 days to the 2027 elections.
Amupitan said the exercise was in compliance with Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, adding that claims and objections arising from the display would subsequently be addressed at the registration areas.
The commission is also set to begin the first phase of Permanent Voter Card distribution to Local Government Area collection centres on October 9.
Amupitan said INEC had introduced an online registration portal and downloadable PVC technology to reduce the difficulties associated with distance and waiting time.
The commission said the measures were part of efforts to improve access to voter registration and cards ahead of the elections.
The final voters’ register for the 2027 elections is expected to be presented to political parties on December 15.
Amupitan said nine of the 14 statutory milestones in INEC’s revised election timetable had been completed.
He described the 100-day milestone as “a call to action” towards delivering an election that meets global standards of transparency, integrity and peace.
The INEC chairman urged stakeholders to remain focused on ensuring that eligible Nigerians are able to participate in the electoral process.
The current register has also risen to more than 103 million voters, following the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise, making the October verification window particularly significant.
