Unknown Gunmen Kill 3 Policemen in Delta

Unknown gunmen at about 2 am on Friday morning attacked Umutu Police Divisional Headquarters in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.

Two Police constables and an Assistant Superintendent of police who were on duty were shot dead while the police station was not burnt, but it was not clear if the gunmen carted away arms and ammunition from the police station.

It was learnt that the gunmen stormed the Community from the Ndemili axis to wreak havoc on the Police Station.

When contacted for comments, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Ali confirmed the killings, saying they lost two policemen at the station while a third which is the ASP died in the hospital as a result of high blood pressure.

He also stressed that they repelled the attack from getting worse as they killed two of the gunmen who were taken away by his gang members.

The Delta CP call on those with useful information on the whereabouts of the fleeing gunmen to report to the nearest police station, saying they will leave no stone unturned in bringing them to book.

As at the time of filing this report, there is still serious tension in Umutu Community as journalists were prevented from gaining access to the community.

This is the second police station that will be attacked in Delta state in two weeks after Gunmen killed three policemen at Nsukwa, one at Akwukwu-Igbo, before today's incident.
