Ndume: Ali Ndume Granted Bail For 'Good Behaviour'

Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja after spending four days at the Kuje Correctional Center.

The Senator was remanded following an order on Monday 23 November owing to his failure as a surety to produce Abdulrasheed Maina, who is standing trial for alleged money laundering to the tune of N2billion.

One surety who must be resident in Abuja and owns landed properties in any part of the FCT forms part of his bail conditions.

Others are that Ndume deposits his international passport at the court as well as sign an undertaking that he will within ten days file a record of appeal.

In his ruling, Justice Okon Abang noted that the main ground for granting Ndume's application for bail is that of good behavior during the period of Maina's trial and that of the forfeiture proceedings, describing his conduct as 'sober and respectful'.

Galaxy's Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that the judge, however, faulted other aspects of the bail application, noting the issue of jurisdiction in particular, as it would amount to nullity to sit on appeal in his own decision.

Speaking to journalists, Ndume's Lawyer, Marcel Oru, says efforts are underway to secure Ndume's release.
