FRSC admonishes road users to drive with caution

Search and rescue mission has commenced for a  commercial Sienna bus which plunged into Ososa river in Odogbolu local government of Ogun state.

A combined team of search and rescue personnel of the Federal roads safety corps, the Ogun state traffic compliance and enforcement, the federal ministry of works, local divers and equipment have been drafted to the section four of the Benin/ Sagamu expressway, scene of the accident.

The lone accident according to the sector commander of the Federal roads safety corps, Clement Oladele was caused by a burst tyre when the driver of the ill-fated bus was trying to overtake another vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the river.

This is now a recurring decimal along this section four of the Benin/ Sagamu expressway.

This year alone about eleven lives have been reported lost and just yesterday, a commercial Sienna bus with yet unknown numbers of passengers plunged into and buried underneath this bridge.

For a second day running, the search and rescue mission aided by local divers has not yielded any positive result; it is being hampered by rising water volume as a result of downpour of about three days running.

To many, these accidents may have been averted if appropriate measures which include railings have been provided to protect vehicles from plunging into the river.

But while the search and rescue efforts continue, it is of utmost importance that drivers and other road users drive with caution, to reduce avoidable deaths in this stretch of road.
