FG moves to review legion laws

The federal government has pledged to review the Nigerian Legion Act for effective delivery of the welfare of retired soldiers in the country.


Minister of Defence retired major general Bashir Magashi gave the assurance during a media briefing to commemorate the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations.

General Magashi said the Legion Act which will now bear, veteran federation of Nigerian act is to help cater for the welfare needs of the veteran in line with international best practices.

He also said the government is strengthening the Nigerian Military pensions Board for a smoother pension administration for the retired men and officers of the Nigerian military.

The minister said the Bill is currently before the National Assembly for deliberations and onward passage. On the activities of the armed forces day celebrations, the minister said President Muhammadu Buhari would launch emblem for the event on October 16, 2019.

Highpoint of the celebrations would wreath-laying by President Muhammadu Buhari and other senior government officials at the national cenotaph on January 15, 2020.
