APC set to restructure party

The All Progressives Congress has set up a nine-member committee to articulate its position on the recent clamour for restructuring of the country.

The decision to set up the committee was reached at the fifth regular joint APC National Working Committee and APC Governors meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, chairman of the Nigerian governors’ forum and governor of Zamfara state, Abdul Aziz Yari said the meeting also deliberated on other national issues aimed at moving the country forward.

It was a meeting of the party aimed at addressing pending issues and of course their convention which has lingered for some time as announced by chairman of the party, John Oyegun.

When they rose, Governor Yari told journalists that the meeting dealt with the issue of ward congresses that will commence this weekend as prelude to the party’s planned convention, the party’s relationship with the national assembly as well as the just concluded legislative election in Osun west senatorial district.

The party also announced Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State as Chairman of the nine man restructuring notion committee of the party with Governors of Osun, Kano, Plateau and Ogun States as members.

Other members of the committee include; Former Governor of Edo State, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, APC National Organizing Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso, APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, Hajia Fatima Balla and Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi who is to serve as the committee’s secretary APC National publicity Bolaji Abdulahi said the gesture was to calm  various agitations on restructuring, which he said had assumed several disparate meanings.

As the ruling party gear to embrace current political realities, analysts say the present move might rewrite positively, the country’s democratic setting.
