Workers at the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company have continued their protest over alleged unpaid salaries, blocking access to the facility’s administrative block for four days.

The protest, which began on Tuesday, continued on Friday at the refinery in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, disrupting normal activities at the facility.

A staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the action was triggered by the management’s failure to pay workers for several months.

The source said the protesters had vowed to sustain the action until their grievances were addressed.

The exact number of months covered by the alleged salary arrears, as well as the categories of workers affected, could not be established as of the time of filing this report.

Efforts to obtain comments from the refinery’s management were unsuccessful.

The protest comes amid concerns over workers’ welfare at the facility, which has remained largely non-operational for years amid turnaround maintenance and rehabilitation efforts.
