The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Ondo State. The late registrar was found dead in his residence in Ondo town early Thursday morning, sparking shock and grief across the university community.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said preliminary findings indicate it was an assassination. “The man died in the early hours of Thursday. I can confirm to you that it’s a case of murder reported at Fanibi Division. We are doing everything possible to unravel the circumstances and track those responsible,” Ayanlade stated.

According to him, “the police received intelligence that two men emerged from a nearby bush and allegedly forced a substance into another person’s mouth. While the exact location of the incident remains unconfirmed, the police said investigations are underway to determine the motive and identity of the attackers. “We urge anyone with useful information about the assailants to come forward and assist in our investigation,” the police spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, the management and staff of UNIMED have expressed deep sorrow over the registrar’s death. In a statement signed by the Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, the institution described the news as “devastating. “He was still at his duty post on Monday, 14th July, 2025. The cause of his death is yet to be officially determined,” the statement read. Mr. Adeniran assumed office as the university’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, and served in that capacity until his sudden demise on July 17, 2025.
