The FCT Police Command has arrested 70 suspects following a raid on criminal flashpoints around Unity Fountain and its environs in Maitama, Abuja, after a video alleging a robbery incident in the area went viral.
In a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the raid was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, following the viral video, with the aim of identifying and apprehending persons connected to the incident.
The police say 30 of the suspects arrested were screened and released, while 40 others were retained in custody for further investigation.
During the investigation, the victim positively identified two of the suspects as persons he recognised from the incident. The two suspects and others in custody are being investigated as the police work to identify anyone else connected to the alleged robbery.
The Command has urged residents to remain security-conscious and report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
