The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a suspect linked to a violent land dispute in Eruwa, with efforts underway to capture two additional individuals involved.
The attack, which resulted in injuries, was reported on September 14, 2026, around 4:10 PM by a vigilant eyewitness who intervened, rescued the injured party, and ensured they received medical care before alerting authorities.
Investigators from the Eruwa Division promptly responded, visited the scene, and launched a preliminary probe. They discovered that on September 11, 2026, at noon, the victim was working on farmland between Eruwa and Ayete, specifically at Abule Oba-Gboru Village via Okanlawon Village—an area embroiled in a land dispute.
There, the victim encountered three men—Agboola Emmanuel, Dare Agboola, and Monday—who were nearby making charcoal from firewood. An argument erupted, escalating into a violent clash where the three allegedly attacked the victim with machetes, causing injuries in the confrontation.
As the investigation progressed, detectives arrested Agboola Emmanuel, who, during interrogation, admitted his involvement and provided information identifying the other two individuals involved in the attack. The information obtained has enabled the police to establish their identities, while detectives intensify efforts to apprehend them and bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, has cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, particularly in matters relating to land ownership, boundaries and other civil disputes.
The Commissioner stressed that the existence of a civil or land dispute does not confer on any individual the right to assault, threaten, intimidate or use weapons against another person. Parties involved in such disputes are advised to seek redress through the courts or other recognised lawful dispute-resolution mechanisms.
The Command further reminds the public that a matter may begin as a civil dispute but become criminal when violence is introduced, thereby exposing those responsible to arrest, investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Oyo State Police Command therefore urges all parties to remain peaceful and law-abiding while pursuing lawful remedies. The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will take necessary action against anyone who resorts to violence in an attempt to enforce a perceived right.
