Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has credited President Bola Tinubu with taking major political risks in the struggle for Nigeria’s democracy, using his record to rally support for the president’s re-election bid.

Otu spoke on Monday at the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally in Calabar, where he praised Tinubu’s political contributions and described him as a courageous leader.

The governor said Tinubu’s role in the country’s democratic struggle had earned him recognition across Nigeria, particularly in the South-South region.

He also highlighted some of the administration’s policies, including the removal of petrol subsidy, the establishment of the South-South Development Commission and initiatives to widen access to education.

Otu further praised the proposed coastal highway, saying it would improve connectivity between Calabar and Lagos.

“In the nick of time, God created a special womb that would carry an icon of freedom, a demagogue, and a Jagaban who put his life on the line for democracy,” he said.

The governor argued that the decisions taken by political leaders at critical moments shape the history and development of a nation.
