The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Edebiri Temitope, over the death of 38-year-old university graduate, Oje Michael Eje, in the Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.
Temitope, who was initially reported to have gone into hiding with his family, was arrested following police investigation into the incident.
Eje, who reportedly held a degree in Guidance and Counselling, allegedly died after a confrontation with his neighbour over his interaction with the neighbour’s three-year-old child.
According to the police account, Eje had been hugging and playing with the child when Temitope became angry, reportedly objecting to the manner in which they were playing.
The police alleged that Temitope subsequently picked up a bamboo stick and repeatedly struck Eje, causing him to collapse.
Eje later died from the injuries sustained in the incident.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Seyi Babaseyi, initially said the suspect had fled with his family after the incident.
The police later announced that Temitope had been arrested and taken into custody in connection with Eje’s death.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The police said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and Eje’s death.
