Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, known as So-Safe Corps, have arrested a 29-year-old man, Salaudeen Toheeb, after a 22-year-old woman allegedly assaulted in Ota was found in his company.

The suspect was arrested around Olohunda, Ota, after the woman’s father reported her disappearance and provided information on her whereabouts.

The So-Safe Corps Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi, in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Ganzallo said the incident occurred on October 3, following information received by the Divisional Officer of the Alagbon Division, SC Ibrahim Badru, at about 4pm.

He said the Owode-Yewa Area Command, led by ACC Akeem Saka, subsequently moved to the location and arrested Toheeb.

According to the commander, the suspect told investigators that he met the woman while riding his motorcycle and approached her after seeing her roaming around in the evening.

He allegedly said the woman told him she was distressed and did not know where to go, prompting him to take her to his residence and buy her food.

Ganzallo said the suspect allegedly attempted to have sexual intercourse with the woman after she had eaten, but she refused.

He alleged that the suspect later forced himself on her in the early hours of the following day.

The commander said the suspect subsequently asked the woman to accompany him to charge his mobile phone, during which people who recognised her alerted her father.

He said the father immediately reported the matter at the Owode-Yewa Divisional Headquarters, informing officers that his daughter had left home with five mobile phones and N17,000 cash.

“The father wanted the operatives to investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance,” Ganzallo said.

He added that the information supplied by the father led operatives to the location where the woman was found with the suspect.

Ganzallo said the case had been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Owode-Yewa Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and appropriate action.

He urged residents to promptly report missing persons, suspected abuse, sexual offences and other criminal activities to security authorities.

The commander stressed that the suspect remained subject to further investigation and that the allegations would be established through due process.
