The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has warned Nigerians against falling victim to a fake recruitment notice inviting applications for jobs with the defunct Federal Inland Revenue Service.

The warning followed the circulation of a notice titled “Federal Inland Revenue Service – FIRS Job Vacancy – Replacement” on social media and other online platforms.

The notice reportedly asked prospective applicants to submit their details to recruit@replacementnhrmt.org .

In a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, the NRS described the recruitment notice as fraudulent and urged Nigerians to disregard it.

“The NRS wishes to state categorically that the notice is fraudulent and did not emanate from the Nigeria Revenue Service,” the agency said.

The Service also clarified that the Federal Inland Revenue Service had been succeeded by the Nigeria Revenue Service, warning members of the public to be cautious of recruitment offers issued in the name of FIRS.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the NRS has not authorised or commenced the recruitment exercise referenced in the notice and has not appointed or authorised any individual, agent, consultant or third party to conduct any recruitment exercise on its behalf,” it said.

The agency advised Nigerians to independently verify recruitment information before submitting personal details or responding to online links.

It said any genuine recruitment exercise by the NRS would be announced through its official website and authorised communication channels.

The warning comes amid the circulation of online recruitment adverts targeting job seekers, raising concerns that unsuspecting Nigerians could be tricked into surrendering personal information or money.
