The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has joined more than 2,000 participants from 139 countries and organisations in discussions aimed at strengthening international cooperation on migration management and tackling emerging transnational challenges.
The discussions took place at the Sub-Forum on Migration Management Cooperation held in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, China, from September 8 to 11, 2026.
This was revealed in a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, NIS Headquarters, Abuja, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, on September 13, 2026, and shared on the Service’s X handle.
As part of the event, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, on September 9 held a bilateral meeting with the National Immigration Administration of China.
The meeting focused on issues of mutual interest and opportunities to deepen cooperation between both institutions through technical exchanges, information sharing and capacity-building initiatives.
The second day of the forum featured country presentations on migration policy initiatives and efforts to improve cooperation among member countries in tackling irregular migration and transnational organised crime.
The programme also featured parallel sessions on Smart Digital Services and Administration for Foreigners, as well as Advancing Document Verification, Technology and Intelligence Sharing for Secure Borders.
The NIS participated in the latter session, contributing to a roundtable discussion on Nigeria’s role in combating document fraud and falsification of records.
The Service highlighted its efforts to strengthen document verification and border security as part of the country’s response to migration-related crimes and other transnational threats.
The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international partnerships, intelligence sharing and technical cooperation to promote secure borders and effective migration management.
