Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has urged grassroots women to take advantage of government programmes and opportunities created under President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
Edu, the Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, made the call in a statement on Thursday to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
She said her directorate would intensify door-to-door sensitisation and community-level mobilisation to ensure women and households had information about available government programmes and how to access them.
According to Edu, the Renewed Hope Agenda is creating opportunities in agriculture, enterprise, energy, infrastructure, skills development and social investment.
She said the impact of the reforms would be more meaningful if Nigerians at the grassroots understood the available opportunities, the requirements for accessing them and the institutions responsible for delivering them.
“Our founding fathers and heroines gave us the foundation on which we continue to build. Their vision demands that every generation contributes to making Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” she said.
Edu added, “President Tinubu’s reforms are creating new pathways for economic participation.
“Our responsibility is to take that message to the grassroots and ensure that women know where opportunities exist, how to access them, and how to engage the relevant institutions.”
She said the mobilisation campaign would focus on taking information directly to women in their communities and households.
“Through door-to-door sensitisation, we will continue to reach women in their communities and households with information that can help them participate in economic and community development,” she said.
Edu also said the grassroots structures would be used to campaign for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
She called for national unity, peaceful coexistence and greater commitment to building a country that reflects the aspirations of Nigeria’s founding generation.
Edu congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the 66th anniversary of the country’s independence.
