A middle-aged man, Sa'idu Dan'iya, also known as 'Baban Aisha' has cut into the throat of his eight years old daughter, Zahrah Saidu
The incidence happened on Wednesday at Inji Uku, Damare ward, Yola South local government area, Adamawa state, northeast Nigeria.
Dan'Iya was said to have grabbed Zahrah, his daughter, and reached for her jugular with a sharp knife to kill her but for the timely intervention of a neighbour.
A visibly traumatized Fadimatu Saidu, the mother of the victim, told Galaxy news that she was called from her workplace by a neighbour who witnessed the barbaric act.
She said all was well when she went out for work in the morning today, leaving Zahrah who has just returned from Islamiyya school with her father.
Later on, a neighbour rushed out to call her back home, only to meet the tragic incidence and saw how deep the cut to her throat was, describing it as attempted murder by slaughter.
Dr. Elkanah Patrick says Zahrah, whose chance of survival is put at fifty per cent, is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola.
Meanwhile, Suleiman Nguroje, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) has confirmed that Sa'idu Dan'iya has been arrested and is in police custody.
