The Kwara state government has called on the federal government to give special consideration to the state to address the ecological challenges confronting it especially the yearly flooding arising from the overflow of river Niger and Asa river.

The permanent secretary of the state ministry of environment and forestry, Isiaka Al-Amin made the call while addressing journalists in Ilorin the Kwara state capital after the conclusion of sensitization tour to all flood-prone area in Kwara state.

He added the committee set up by the Kwara state government have realized that Asa and river Niger are the main causes of flooding in Kwara, urging the federal government to as a matter of urgency consider the dredging of the Asa river to end the perennial flooding.

Al-Amin also noted that the committee has succeeded in getting some residents of the flood-prone communities to relocate temporarily to facilities provided by the state government.
