“The seizure followed a report received by the council concerning a trader who allegedly stocked a large quantity of expired soft drinks for sale.

“The council immediately deployed its enforcement officers to the market to investigate and prevent the products from reaching consumers.

“We will remain committed to enforcing consumer protection laws without fear or favour,” he assured.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr Ibrahim Garba-Muhammad, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to sustaining enforcement operations across markets, business outlets and supermarkets across the state.

He said the operations were aimed at identifying and removing expired, damaged and substandard products from circulation to safeguard public health.

Garba-Muhammad warned against any attempt to harass or intimidate enforcement officers, stressing that they were carrying out their lawful responsibilities to protect residents from health risks associated with the consumption of unsafe products.

He urged traders to cooperate with the council by voluntarily identifying and removing expired or damaged products from their shops rather than concealing them or attempting to alter their expiry dates.

The ‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌executive secretary assured residents that the council would sustain its monitoring and enforcement activities to ensure that only safe and quality products were available in markets across the state.
