Development stakeholders in Iseyin, Oyo State, have declared that they will support candidates with visible achievements and proven track records in the 2027 general elections, irrespective of their political affiliations.

The stakeholders said candidates should be judged by their contributions to society, commitment to community development and quality of representation rather than their membership of a ruling political party.

The position was contained in a communique issued after a stakeholders’ meeting held at the palace of the Aseyin of Iseyin on Saturday.

The meeting was organised by Ebedi Frontliners, Iseyin (EFI), a socio-cultural organisation focused on the development of the community.

The communique, jointly signed by the organisation’s President, Olusegun Adeleke, and Secretary, Alhaji Segun Fasasi, urged residents to support candidates who would sustain the town’s development gains rather than reverse the progress already recorded.

“We have assembled the stakeholders today to discuss the fate of Iseyin in the last several years, under several federal and state administrations, as well as its future. We realised the fact that purposeful leadership, sincere representation and voting for people with track records catapults development of a people more than belonging to a ruling political party,” the communique stated.

The group added that residents had been sensitised to vote for individuals based on their records and contributions, stressing that support for candidates would cut across political parties.

The meeting attracted representatives of religious organisations, market men and women, artisans, political associations, youth organisations and transport unions, among other interest groups.

It was led by the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III.

Political candidates who attended included the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Saheed Alaran, and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency, Dasola Fadiran.

Also present was the APC candidate for Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency, Akande Babatunde Olufemi, while the APM senatorial candidate for Oyo North, Shina Peller, was represented by Hammed Olabisi.

Speaking through the Head of the Aseyin Royal Family, Prince Oyeyemi Oyebola, the monarch urged residents to shun thuggery and electoral violence before, during and after the 2027 elections.

He said development and growth could not thrive in an atmosphere of violence.

Adeleke also cautioned residents against politicians who might undermine the community’s development by abandoning legacy projects already located in the town.

He announced that a second stakeholders’ meeting would be held in January 2027, ahead of the general elections.

The stakeholders’ declaration comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls, with candidates and political groups beginning to engage communities and mobilise support.
