The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has ordered Commissioners of Police across the country to seize and Impound unregistered vehicles and vehicles with tampered or concealed registration numbers on Nigerian roads with immediate effect.

The IGP gave the directive while addressing concerns over public safety during a meeting with senior officers of the Force. He noted that the police have observed an increasing number of vehicles being driven without registration or with tampered number plates to conceal their identities.

Describing the practice as unlawful, Disu said any vehicle found without a number plate or with a concealed or tampered registration number will be stopped and seized by his men.

Also, highlighting the operational successes of the Force in the last three months, he disclosed that from March till date, the police have arrested 199 terrorism, murder, kidnapping and armed robbery suspects, leading to the rescue of 88 victims.

He added that 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition and 28 vehicles were recovered.
