Two firms have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $2.1m land transaction involving Jordan Nyesom-Wike, son of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, asking the agency to investigate allegations of fraud and misappropriation.
The petition was filed by Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited through their lawyers. They accused Jordan of alleged fraud, obtaining money by false pretences, criminal misappropriation and conversion. The allegations have been denied by the defendant and have not been established in court.
Speaking to journalists at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, counsel to the claimants, Ibrahim Waru, said the EFCC had acknowledged receipt of the petition but had yet to take action.
Waru explained that the petition was intended to bring the alleged criminal aspects of the dispute before the anti-graft agency, while the civil case was already pending before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
The claimants said they had submitted supporting evidence, including correspondence and WhatsApp exchanges, with the petition. According to their account, the $2.1m was allegedly handed over to Jordan at a house in Gwarinpa, Abuja, on September 26, 2025, in the presence of two witnesses.
The petition stated that the complainants wanted the EFCC to investigate the alleged offences in connection with the disputed transaction.
However, Jordan has denied the allegations, maintaining that he was outside Nigeria on the date the claimants alleged they met him and handed over the money.
He reportedly tendered his international passport before the court in support of his position, telling the court that he travelled abroad with his American passport during the period in question.
Meanwhile, Justice Silvanus Oriji of the FCT High Court has fixed December 1 for the continuation of hearing in the civil suit, marked CV/008/2026, filed by the claimants against Jordan.
The dispute has also prompted the claimants to petition the Chief Judge of the court, seeking Justice Oriji’s removal from the case over an alleged relationship with the FCT minister’s family.
The allegation of a relationship has not been established in the information provided, and no decision on the request for the judge’s removal was reported.
The civil proceedings and the EFCC petition are separate processes, with the court handling the claimants’ suit and the anti-graft agency being asked to investigate the alleged criminal elements of the transaction.
