The Federal Government has emphasized the importance of the Research towards addressing key national issues for rapid socioeconomic development.

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, made the revelation at a press conference in Abuja, to herald the Research Fair and Exhibition by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. He maintained that the initiative encourages academia, research institutions, and other sectors to contribute to national development.

Dr. Alausa acknowledged Nigeria’s abundant resources and intellectual talent, stressing that the nation must embrace knowledge-driven economies to tackle challenges such as youth unemployment, poverty, insecurity, and infrastructure decay.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes leveraging local research and technology outputs to drive economic growth.

The minister also called for better synergy among research and technology agencies to enhance nation-building efforts and ensure democratic dividends.

He praised TETFund’s role in advancing research, revealing that President Tinubu has approved N5 billion in 2024 to support TETFund’s National Research Fund for addressing national development issues.

Furthermore, Dr. Alausa announced plans to overhaul the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, shifting the curriculum focus to 80% practical work and 20% theory.
