The Delta State Government has called for a thorough police investigation into the political violence in Asaba that left one person dead and five others seriously injured.
The government condemned Saturday’s incident, describing it as unacceptable and warning political parties and their supporters against actions capable of threatening public peace and security.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Works and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, the government reiterated its zero tolerance for political violence, intimidation and other forms of political misconduct.

Aniagwu said the government had repeatedly cautioned political parties against activities that could disrupt public order, adding that the incident could have been avoided if organisers had followed security advice.
He explained that the police had advised the organisers to cancel the proposed street march and hold their campaign at a designated venue where adequate security arrangements could be made.
The government urged the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence and ensure that anyone found responsible was brought to justice.
It also called on political parties, their leaders and supporters to conduct their activities within the law and respect human life, public order and the rights of other citizens.
