The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, has urged communities to sustain cooperation and timely information sharing with troops to strengthen ongoing military operations.

Wase made the call on Tuesday during an operational assessment visit to the 17 Brigade Area of Responsibility in Katsina State, where he addressed members of the Dokolo community in Sabuwa Local Government Area.

This is contained in a statement on Tuesday by Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army.

He emphasised the critical role of community support in enhancing military operations, particularly through the provision of credible and timely intelligence to security agencies.

Addressing frontline troops during the visit, the GOC charged them to maintain high standards of professionalism, remain vigilant and sustain operational readiness in the discharge of their duties.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Army Headquarters and the Division’s leadership to prioritising troop welfare, operational effectiveness and logistics support to enhance combat efficiency.

The GOC, accompanied by the Commander, 17 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Ishaya Ibrahim, also visited troops at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Faskari, where he commended them for their resilience, dedication and commitment to duty.

He praised the troops for maintaining high morale despite the challenging operational terrain and assured them of the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to address their administrative and logistics needs.

In a related development, Wase paid a condolence visit to Dutsinma to convey the sympathies of the Chief of Army Staff to the family and followers of the late Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, who was recently assassinated.

He appealed to members of the community to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies intensify investigations to identify and bring those responsible for the killing to justice.

The GOC reiterated the importance of public cooperation with security agencies in maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

The visit formed part of the Division’s ongoing efforts to assess operational activities, boost troop morale and strengthen collaboration with communities in its area of responsibility.
