The association made the call during a condolence visit to Niger State Governor Umaru Bago at the Government House in Minna.
The CAN delegation, led by the state vice-chairman, Reverend Joshua Rikoto, who represented the state chairman and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Reverend Bulus Yohanna, described the deaths as tragic and urged authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
CAN also appealed to the families of the deceased and residents of the affected communities to remain calm and law-abiding while the investigation continues.
The association commended the Niger State Government for setting up a panel of inquiry into the deaths and acknowledged the administration’s response to the incident.
Responding, Bago said the deaths were deeply troubling and could have been avoided, assuring the delegation that the matter would be pursued to its logical conclusion.
The governor said the incident would not be swept under the carpet, adding that his administration would follow up on the investigation in line with its responsibility to the people.
Bago also stressed the importance of cooperation between the government and religious leaders in promoting peace, unity and peaceful coexistence in Niger State.
He said the state belonged to everyone regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
CAN also prayed for the families of the deceased and expressed support for efforts to maintain peace in the state.
