Following the arrest of three suspected handset snatchers on 10 September 2026, who were allegedly operating a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) to snatch mobile phones from unsuspecting members of the public in Maiduguri, the Borno State Police Command has recorded further breakthroughs in the ongoing investigation.
The police announced that it has arrested nine additional suspects, bringing the total to 12.
The operation has also led to the recovery of seven additional mobile phones and two tricycles, believed to be connected to the activities under investigation.
The police said that, upon completion of the investigation and in accordance with due process, the suspects will be charged before the appropriate court.
The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, commended the personnel and members of the public whose timely and credible information contributed to the ongoing breakthrough. He reiterated the command’s commitment to combating street-level criminality and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
