The Bauchi State Police Command has transferred the case involving the alleged killing of a 43-year-old woman by her co-wife to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The suspect, Hauwa'u Haruna, 33, was arrested after allegedly hitting her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, with a pestle during a domestic incident at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis.
The police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said the incident was reported at the C-Division, Bauchi, on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Habib said preliminary investigation indicated that the two women, who were co-wives living in the same household, were involved in a domestic incident.
“Our preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, one Hauwa'u Haruna, 33 years old, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, one Jamila Adamu, 43 years old, on the forehead,” he said.
According to the police, Adamu fell unconscious after the alleged assault and was taken to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead.
Habib said the scene had been documented and the deceased’s remains deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The suspect has been arrested, while the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Sani-Omolori, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
