Following the recent death of a female medical doctor at the Federal Medical Center Umuahia, residents of Umuahia in Abia state say they are observing precautionary measures to avoid contracting the deadly virus.

Some of them who spoke to our correspondent note that though tension from the news of the outbreak of the dreaded disease had doused, they were none-the-less conscious of their environment.

For the management of the Federal Medical Center where the deceased medical doctor worked, preventive measures had been put in place.

Head of Community Medicine Department, Ugochukwu Onyeonoro says the Health facility was fully observing the Universal Safety Precaution including the decontamination of the hospital.

According to reports, the source from where the late female medical doctor contacted the Lassa Fever disease remains unclear as all the relatives of dead baby who was allegedly treated by the doctor, are alive and in good health.
