The President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Ogar Emmanuel Idoko, has reiterated that doctors' welfare remains a critical priority, emphasising its central role in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system and improving patient outcomes.

Dr. Idoko made this known on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Physicians’ Week held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The event featured Senator Francis Faduyile as the keynote speaker and Dr. George Ebong, Chairman of the NMA FCT Branch, alongside other distinguished medical leaders.

In his remarks, the NARD President stressed that physicians' well-being is fundamental to delivering quality healthcare, sustaining the health system, and improving the overall health of the Nigerian populace.

He reaffirmed NARD’s commitment to sustained advocacy, constructive engagement, and strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders to advance doctors’ welfare, safeguard their professional interests, and promote a safe, supportive, and enabling environment for medical practice across the country.

Dr. Idoko further underscored the need for deliberate and sustained investments in the welfare of medical practitioners, noting that prioritising doctors’ well-being is not merely a professional obligation but also a strategic investment in the nation’s health and future.

NARD remains resolute in its pursuit of policies and initiatives that promote the dignity, welfare, and professional fulfilment of resident doctors while strengthening the delivery of quality healthcare to Nigerians.
