Plateau PDP Primary: Jang Accused of Intimidation

The Plateau state Peoples Democratic Party’s guber primary election that was held in Jos was almost marred with violence as strong disagreement ensued on how the election should be conducted.

This led to adjustments of the existing guidelines for the primary just to calm frayed nerves, the main bone of contention was the labeling of ballot boxes according to local government areas.

The aspirants totaling 15 in number threaten to boycott the primary election if their demands were not met. One of the aspirants who once serve as INEC commissioner said the practice of labeling boxes was unconstitutional and meant to intimidate voters into voting for the governor’s candidate in the person of GNS Pwajok.

While speaking with our correspondent King Richard, Senator GNS Pwajok posited that it is wrong in every game to change the rules of the game when the match is already underway.

The build up to the PDP Gubernotorial primary in Plateau state had generated so much tension in the state that kept the security operatives on their toes to forestall any break down of law and order that might arise from opposing camps. Earlier in the day the states Police PRO Abuh Emmanuel gave a stern warning that no one in the state has been given the permission to statge any form of protest.

The widespread dissatisfaction emanated from the belief that the governor is supporting his kinsman who hails from same senatorial zone and village, thereby ignoring the principle of zoning as enshrined in the party’s constitution hence the apathy at the election venue.

Senator Pwajok whom many believed the arrangements in the venue has been made to suit his emergence said it is wrong and illegal anywhere in the world for the goal post to be shifted when the game is on already. He called on electorates to be orderly and hope for the best.

The primary election which started very late came to an end at about eleven ocluck had GNS Pwajok pulling 435 to defeat his closet river, Deputy Governor LongJan who could only manage 163 votes.
