The United States has introduced a new visa restriction policy aimed at individuals involved in race-based discrimination, incitement of imminent violence, and uncompensated land seizures in South Africa.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the measures, referencing President Trump’s Executive Order 14204, titled “Addressing Egregious Actions of the Republic of South Africa.” He voiced ongoing concerns over racially motivated crimes and reported government-sponsored discrimination against Afrikaners and other minority groups.
Rubio highlighted aspects such as race-based discriminatory laws, threats of land expropriation without compensation, and the use of dehumanising chants and slogans that provoke racial violence.
He criticised the South African government for insufficiently addressing these issues and called for prompt action. The secretary emphasised that such actions threaten peace, economic stability, and the rule of law, and run counter to U.S. foreign policy.
