Colombian singer Shakira has asked a Barcelona court to revise the visitation arrangements for her two sons with former Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué, citing concerns over the children’s frequent travel between the United States and Spain.
The former couple appeared before the court on Tuesday as Shakira sought changes to the existing custody arrangement for Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11.
According to the singer’s legal team, the proposed changes are aimed at reducing the number of short transatlantic trips the boys make between Miami, where they live with Shakira, and Barcelona, where Piqué resides.
Her representatives said frequent travel could affect the children’s “emotional, physical and academic wellbeing”.
Under Shakira’s proposal, Piqué would travel to Miami during shorter school holidays, allowing the children to remain in their home environment and maintain their routines.
Her lawyers stressed that the request was not aimed at reducing the amount of time the children spend with their father.
Shakira, 49, and Piqué, 39, began dating in 2011 and announced their separation in June 2022 after more than a decade together. They reached a custody and visitation agreement several months later, following which Shakira moved to Miami with their sons.
Piqué, who retired from professional football in 2022 after playing for Barcelona and Spain, has regular periods with the children each month and during school holidays.
The court appearance comes as Shakira continues her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour. She is currently in Madrid for the final leg of the tour, with 13 concerts scheduled between September 18 and October 12.
The tour, which began in February 2025, takes its name from her album of the same title. The album includes her global hit collaboration with Argentine producer Bizarrap, “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”, which addressed her high-profile split from Piqué.
