Pope Francis’ personal writings spanning more than three decades will be published next month, offering readers a rare insight into the thoughts and spiritual reflections of the late Catholic pontiff.
The 144-page book, titled The Spiritual Diary of Pope Francis, will be released on November 24 in 94 countries and five languages, according to his publishers.
The diary contains writings made by Francis, whose birth name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, between December 20, 1992, and August 18, 2024.
The writings were presented by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, a close collaborator of the late pope.
The Vatican described the collection as a text “of exceptional value and importance”, saying it would shed further light on the personality of the first Latin American to lead the Roman Catholic Church.
Francis became pope on March 13, 2013, and remained in office until his death on April 21, 2025.
The publication is expected to provide a more personal perspective on a pope known for his emphasis on humility, social justice and reform within the Church.
French publisher Albin Michel president Gilles Haeri described the diary as “very personal”, saying it followed the tradition of Francis’ autobiography, Hope.
Hope was published shortly before Francis’ death and became the first autobiography released by a sitting pope.
The diary will be published in Italian by Libreria Editrice Vaticana, while Penguin Random House will handle the Spanish, English and Portuguese editions. The French edition will be released by Albin Michel on November 25.
