Nollywood actress Chita Agwu has announced the end of her 11-year marriage, saying she is choosing peace, healing, and personal growth as she begins a new chapter of her life.

The actress, popularly known on Instagram as Chita Oxe, disclosed that her marriage to businessman Johnson Maduabuchi had been legally dissolved by a court in a personal statement shared on her Instagram page on Monday.

In the announcement, Agwu said the decision followed much thought and a deeply personal journey, but declined to disclose the circumstances surrounding the divorce.

“After much thought and a journey that has been deeply personal, I wish to officially inform the public that my marriage has been legally dissolved by the court,” she wrote.

Describing the development as the end of a chapter, the actress said she was ready to embrace a new beginning with peace, grace, and dignity.

She also urged the public to allow people whose marriages have ended to move forward without judgment or humiliation.

“Marriage is a personal journey, and not every story ends the way we once hoped. However, I believe that every individual deserves the freedom to move forward without judgment, ridicule, or public humiliation,” she stated.

Chita Agwu asks for privacy after divorce
Agwu made it clear that she would not discuss the circumstances surrounding the end of her marriage publicly, appealing to her followers and the media to respect the privacy of both parties.

“Out of respect for everyone involved, I will not be sharing private details or engaging in public discussions about the circumstances surrounding my divorce. I kindly ask that my privacy and that of my former partner be respected,” she said.

The actress did not disclose the reasons for the dissolution, maintaining that she would rather focus on moving forward than engage in public explanations about her private life.

Expressing appreciation to those who had supported her, Agwu said she intended to prioritise healing and growth as she entered the next phase of her life.

“I choose peace over controversy, healing over bitterness, and growth over public explanations,” she wrote.
She concluded the announcement by reaffirming her determination to move forward despite the end of her marriage.

“My marriage has ended, but my life continues. I move forward with my head held high, my dignity intact, and my heart open to the future,” she added.

A marriage that lasted 11 years
Agwu and Maduabuchi's marriage lasted 11 years. The couple held their traditional wedding in October 2014 in Ebonyi State before celebrating their white wedding in June 2015.

In a 2023 interview with The Punch, the actress recounted meeting her husband on Instagram and said he proposed four days after they met in person.

Agwu has not publicly disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the divorce, reiterating in her announcement that she wants her privacy and that of her former partner respected.

Her statement focused on moving forward with dignity rather than assigning blame, as she expressed readiness to embrace the future.
