Ghanaian musician Black Sherif, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, has announced the launch of his foundation aimed at supporting mothers who struggle to settle hospital bills after giving birth.
The musician disclosed details about the Mohammed Ismail Sherif Foundation during an interview with DCLeakers.net , explaining that the initiative began with a focus on mothers in hospitals and maternity wards.
According to Black Sherif, the foundation was established to assist mothers who have delivered their babies but are unable to leave the hospital because they cannot afford to pay their medical bills.
“I set up Mohammed Ismail Sherif Foundation mostly for mothers in hospitals. That's where we started from right now,” he said.
The musician explained that his experience of seeing mothers remain in hospitals after childbirth because of unpaid bills motivated the foundation’s initial focus.
He said the initiative has been supporting mothers for about three years, with plans to expand its reach as more children and families benefit from the programme.
“When you go to some of the hospitals in Ghana, there are some mothers who have given birth, can't sort their bills to go home, all of that. So that's where we started from for like three years now,” Black Sherif said.
He added that the foundation would continue to grow beyond its current focus as its impact increases.
“As it keeps going, as the kids benefit, and all of that, we will just keep expanding,” he said.
For now, the foundation's work is concentrated on mothers in hospitals, particularly those in maternity wards, as it seeks to provide support to families facing financial difficulties following childbirth.
The initiative adds philanthropy to Black Sherif's growing public profile, with the musician using his platform to draw attention to challenges faced by vulnerable families in Ghana.
