Francis Atela has been recognised for his contribution to Benue’s music scene after winning the Male Artist of the Year award at the 10th Made in Benue All White Party.
The singer, who gained national attention after finishing as first runner-up in the sixth season of Nigerian Idol in 2021, received the award from the event’s convener, OD Woods.
The recognition came as the annual event celebrated music, fashion, art, dance and other creative talents from Benue.
Speaking after receiving the award, Atela said being honoured in his home state made the recognition particularly significant.
“To be recognised by your own people, in your own home, is something you never take for granted,” he said.
Atela, who started singing in church before venturing into professional music, said the award would encourage him to continue promoting Benue’s culture through his work.
“This is for Benue. This is for the culture. And we’re only getting started,” he added.
He also thanked his supporters and urged artistes and other creatives from the state to support one another.
The Made in Benue All White Party was established in 2016 and has become an annual platform for showcasing creative talent from the state.
