UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, announced this in Abuja during a two-day consultative workshop with chairmen of the 36 State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) and UBEC directors.
Garba said the roadmap marks a shift from isolated infrastructure projects to a whole-school approach, where the comprehensive needs of individual schools will be identified and addressed before interventions are approved.
She said the approach will cover critical facilities including classrooms, toilets, fencing, furniture and computers.
The UBEC boss also unveiled the Basic Education Action Plan Management System, BEAPMS, a digital platform designed to strengthen planning, transparency and monitoring of projects.
She said communities and parents will be able to track projects, funding and the quality of interventions in their schools, while details of funds accessed by states will be published on UBEC’s website.
UBEC also announced a revised matching grant formula that will allow states to direct funds towards their specific education needs, including renovation, furniture, enrolment materials and additional teachers.
Dean of SUBEB Chairmen, Professor Shehu Adaramaja, said the consultation will help stakeholders establish a common direction for improving access, quality and the management of basic education over the next decade.
UBEC Director of Physical Planning, Arc. Nura Ibrahim, said the exercise will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to review and validate the proposed roadmap ahead of its full implementation.
