The Ekiti State Government has declared Monday, October 5, a work-free day for teachers, resulting in the closure of schools to day students across the state for this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration.

The Commissioner for Education, Adebimpe Aderiye, announced the decision in a statement, directing teachers to participate fully in activities marking the annual event.

She said all day students were expected to remain at home on Monday and urged parents, guardians and school authorities to make the necessary arrangements.

“The state government wishes to inform all teachers and members of the public that Monday, 5th October 2026, has been declared a work-free day for teachers in the state,” Aderiye said.

She explained that the decision was to enable teachers to participate fully in activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.

Aderiye also praised teachers for their contribution to the state’s education system and the development of children.

“The state government appreciates the dedication and invaluable contributions of teachers to the development of education and the future of our children,” she said.

She wished teachers a happy World Teachers’ Day and urged parents, guardians, students and school authorities to take note of the arrangement.

The development means regular academic activities for day students will not hold in Ekiti on Monday as teachers observe the government-approved break.

Kwara State also declared Monday a work-free day for teachers to mark the occasion, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commending educators for their contribution to human capital development.

In a related development, AbdulRazaq approved a N50,000 support grant for National Youth Service Corps members serving in Kwara State.

The governor announced the grant during the swearing-in of Batch C, Stream One corps members at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

He said the gesture was intended to cushion the impact of current economic conditions on the corps members during their service year.
