Edo Lawmaker Slams Oshiomhole Over False Claim Of Better Security Performance Than Obi
A member of the House of Representatives, Afam Ogene, Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Caucus, has slammed former Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State over false claim that his security record surpassed that of former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State.
Ogene, in a statement, described Oshiomhole’s comments as misleading and an attempt to distort the history of security management in Anambra State during the Obi administration.
He maintained that security reforms credited to Obi, including support for community-based security structures, and the provision of logistics to security agencies, contributed significantly to efforts to combat crime in the state.
The lawmaker also faulted Oshiomhole’s account of events surrounding the activities of the Bakassi Boys and the demolition of criminal hideouts, insisting that the facts remain a matter of public record.
Ogene said testimonies from security officials, who served in Anambra during Obi’s tenure, support claims that the former governor prioritised security and provided operational assistance to law enforcement agencies.
He further stated that recent criticisms and attacks against Obi by political opponents were aimed at undermining his growing influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmaker urged political actors to focus on issues and allow Nigerians to make informed choices, stressing that every eligible citizen has the constitutional right to seek elective office.
