OPay has warned Nigerians seeking the Federal Government’s monthly N50,000 cash relief to avoid fraudulent agents and unverified links, saying only qualified beneficiaries can access the support.

The fintech firm said eligible customers would receive a pop-up notification on their OPay app homepage, which they could click to proceed with the next steps.

In a post on its X handle on Tuesday, the company clarified that customers who could not see the notification were not eligible for the intervention.

OPay stressed that it did not determine beneficiaries’ eligibility, directing customers seeking assistance to the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention helpline.

“OPay will never ask for your PIN or OTP to process a NERSI relief payment. Do not pay any agent or click unverified links,” the company said.

It advised customers to check their eligibility only through its official mobile application or the USSD code 95520#.

The clarification followed growing public interest in the Federal Government’s N50,000 monthly cash support programme for vulnerable Nigerians.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, announced the commencement of the disbursement under NERSI in an October 30 statement.

Doro said eligible beneficiaries would receive N50,000 monthly to meet essential needs and cushion the impact of rising living costs.

He said the ministry was partnering with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure and transparent payments.

According to the minister, beneficiaries would receive an SMS seeking their consent before the funds were paid directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

Doro said no application, registration through agents or payment of fees was required to access the relief, warning Nigerians against sharing their PINs or Bank Verification Numbers.

The approved providers and eligibility-check codes include ALAT by Wema (94523#), MoMo PSB (6710#), NairaGram (72600#), OPay (95520#) and Moniepoint (557327#).

The minister urged Nigerians unsure about messages concerning the programme to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
