Air Peace cancelled its Abuja-Maiduguri service after a series of delays linked to aviation fuel availability and adverse weather conditions at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The airline said its Abuja operations were initially delayed by the unavailability of Jet A1 aviation fuel, which also affected other airlines operating from the airport.
Although the fuel became available and affected flights resumed, Air Peace said the Abuja-Maiduguri service could not operate as planned.
According to the airline, an extension had initially been granted for the flight, but prevailing Visual Flight Rules conditions made it impossible to proceed once the aircraft was ready for boarding because the flight could not operate beyond sunset.
“The initial delays to our Abuja operations were occasioned by the unavailability of Jet A1 aviation fuel, which affected Air Peace and other airlines operating from the airport. Upon the availability of fuel, our affected flights commenced operations accordingly.
“However, our Abuja–Maiduguri service could not subsequently operate as planned. Although an extension had initially been granted for the flight, by the time the aircraft was ready for boarding, prevailing VFR conditions meant that the extension was no longer tenable, as the flight could not operate beyond sunset,” the airline said.
Passengers affected by the cancellation were provided with hotel accommodation, while arrangements were made to operate the service the following day.
Air Peace said passengers were kept informed during the disruption and provided with refreshments while waiting for their flights.
The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and said safety considerations remained central to its operations.
The development comes days after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority directed Air Peace to compensate passengers affected by a separate delayed flight.
