Siasia Appoints Mikel New Super Eagles Captain

Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has been announced as the new captain of the Nigeria senior men’s national team, the Super Eagles.

Mikel, who is the longest-serving member of the current squad made his début in 2005 and is expected to lead the team against Egypt in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier today in Kaduna.

Former Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh named the CSKA Moscow forward as replacement for Vincent Enyeamah who retired from the national team late last year.

In accepting Coach Samson Siasia’s decision to hand the skipper’s band to Mikel, Musa told journalists in Kaduna yesterday that the Chelsea midfielder was senior to him in Eagles. Musa debuted in the Nigerian senior team in 2010.
