Man United 0-1 Sunderland: Larsson volley Gives Black Cats Massive Survival Boost

Sebastian Larsson's first-half volley handed Sunderland a huge victory heading into the last week of the season.  The Swedish midfielder arrived perfectly to slot home Connor Wickham's cross on 30 minutes and pull Sunderland further away from danger.

Ryan Giggs tasted the first defeat of his brief spell as manager of Manchester United, as his side huffed and puffed but failed to create break down a Sunderland defence fighting for their lives.

Robin van Persie played his first 25 minutes since United beat Olympiacos in March and should have scored an equaliser, firing just wide.

The victory gives Gus Poyet's team a three-point buffer between them and Norwich, who play at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
