Brazil 2014: Adepoju pleads for Uche, Osaze

Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has pleaded with Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi to re-call both Ikechukwu Uche and Osaze Odemwingie to the National team.

Adepoju believes that recalling the two players will bring balance to the team, having watched the Super Eagles play out a goalless draw in a friendly game with Mexico last week.

The former Shooting Stars boss pleads with Keshi to bury his hatchet with the players and temper justice with mercy, by recalling the players to the team to enable them to replicate their club form in the national team.

“My dear friend Stephen Keshi needs to forgive the boy, Ike Uche and bring him back into the team for the 2014 World Cup preparations,” Adepoju, who played alongside Keshi in the Golden Team of 1994 told Goal.

“Ike Uche has really done well in his club to deserve a call-up. Keshi can re-assess him in the other friendly matches the Eagles will play. I will be happy if he can extend invitations to Osaze Odemwingie too now that he is also doing well with his club in England,” Adepoju told Goal.

“I want Keshi to temper justice with mercy in the interest of Nigerian football. We must go to the World Cup with our best legs.”

Adepoju praised the performance of the newly capped quartet consisting of; Michael Uchebo, Ramon Azeez, Isaac Imoh and defender Leon Balogun, but noted that the players will need more fame time to be properly assessed.

Meanwhile, Peter Utaka and Kalu Uche scored for their clubs in the Asian Champions League on Tuesday.

Utaka scored for Beijing Guoan (China) in a 1-1 draw with FC Seoul of South Korea. Utaka put his team ahead in the 19th minute before they were pegged back.

He has now scored two goals in two Asian Champions League games. Utaka has score 10 goals in Chinese Super league so far.

Kalu Uche, on his part, scored the winner for Qatari club Al Rayyan in a 1-0 win over Esteghlal.

He struck in the 14th minute.

He has scored three goals in three days following his brace in the league on Saturday to help his side beat Qatar SC 3-0.
