Barcelona 2-1 Victory Over Manchester City Takes Them To The Last Eight

Dani Alves's injury-time goal gave Barcelona victory over Manchester City that takes them into the Champions League last eight. Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, City's best early chance was a Samir Nasri shot that was saved by Victor Valdes.

Lionel Messi finished a Cesc Fabregas pass before Pablo Zabaleta was shown a second yellow card for dissent. Vincent Kompany prodded in from Edin Dzeko's flick but Alves scored from Andres Iniesta's cross.

City's first foray into the knock-out stages of this competition might have ended at the first hurdle, but City played with far more conviction than in the first leg at Etihad Stadium.

Having won the Capital One Cup and lost in the FA Cup quarter-finals to Wigan at the weekend, Manuel Pellegrini's side now have only the Premier League - where they are nine points behind leaders Chelsea but have three games in hand - to concern them.

They will wait anxiously for news on the injury that forced Sergio Aguero, who has already missed two chunks of the season, off at half-time.
