Tribunal begins hearing of Atiku’s petition

About 50 boxes containing electoral materials from Niger, Jigawa, Kebbi, and Yobe states, have been brought into the court Thursday as the PDP begins its challenge of the outcome of the 23 February 2019 Presidential elections which INEC announced incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari winner.

These are part of the evidence the opposition party will be tendering before the Election Petition Tribunal as it seeks to overturn the decision of the national electoral body.

The petitioners, Atiku Abubakar and the PDP will be attempting to use the evidences they seek to tender before the tribunal to prove their claims of alleged malpractices on the part of the ruling APC.

However, the main high point of Thursday’s hearing was the appearance of a renowned constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze who appeared for the petitioner, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP as the trial opened.

Shortly after the Justice Mohammed Garba-led tribunal began sitting on Thursday morning, Nwabueze who was earlier wheeled into the courtroom appealed to the court to be allowed to be seated while addressing the bench.
